Continuing our walk, we visited the 波上宮 (Naminoueguu) shrine. As the Japanese name suggests, it is located above the waves (on a cliff.) The red color and Chinese-inspired architecture is very common in Okinawa, a once independent nation that became a prefecture of Japan in the late 1800s.
